3D Artist, 3D World and ImagineFX magazines are teaming up with CreativeBloq.com to bring you Vertex 2019. Industry experts from across the world of CG will descend on the Olympia London on 8th March for a day of inspiring talks, workshops, career advice, portfolio reviews, and more.
A host of exciting speakers have already been confirmed across the world of games, VFX, VR, character creation and everything in between. 2019’s event will see the addition of 2D and archviz themed talks, alongside life drawing sessions and a dedicated doodle wall, on which you can sketch and scribble to your heart’s content.
Ron Ashtiani, founder and CEO of Atomhawk, will be giving a talk on how to survive and succeed as an artist in the games industry. Atomhawk has created concept art, marketing art, and motion graphics for the likes of Marvel, Warner Bros, Microsoft, Amazon and Lego. Ashtiani’s role in the running, creative direction and management of such a company makes him a speaker you don’t want to miss.
Paul Cartwright and Stevie Cole from Rare will be taking part in portfolio review sessions throughout the day. Cartwright is a concept art principal at Rare who has helped shape the art styles of AAA titles, from Kinect Sports to Sea of Thieves. Whilst Cole is a senior character artist who has also taught games art for Weston College and University. Don’t miss this opportunity to get professional advice from two industry experts.
Freelance character artist Shayleen Hulbert will also be hosting portfolio review sessions during the day. She specialises in stylised character modelling and sculpting, and will bring her extensive knowledge of current generation pipelines and methodologies to each session.
CEO and founder of Kilograph, Keely Colcleugh, will be giving a talk on how to experiment and devise new ideas in archviz. Colcleugh has eighteen years experience in the fields of architecture, graphic design, film, visualization, and animation. Her talk will be packed with tips on how to think outside the box with your art.
Creative Assembly character artists Jas Dhatt and Danny Sweeney will be sharing their extensive knowledge in a talk entitled ‘The Art of WARHAMMER – Developing Fantasy Characters and Creatures’. The pair will showcase the sculpting, texturing, and general artistic techniques used to develop characters for the Total War: WARHAMMER franchise.
For those interested in concept art and illustration, Jason Horley, Stephen Tappin, and Pablo Dominguez Aguilar of Industrial Light & Magic will be hosting a talk on art direction for film in the 2D room.This is set to be a valuable insight into the legendary VFX and animation studio.
Another exciting speaker is Anthony Greyson, talent manager at Saddington Baynes. With more than a decade of experience representing creative talent across CGI/VFX, motion graphics, digital design, and more, he is perfectly placed to provide tips for those taking the first steps into their career or artists seeking guidance for that next opportunity.
‘Making Waves for Adrift’ will see Benoit Leveau and James Reid of Milk Visual Effects discussing the artistic and technical challenges they solved during production on the feature film Adrift. The film presented a challenging scope of water simulation work, within a very short time frame, testing the agility of the pair and their team. This is a great opportunity to learn how the team at Milk created massive ocean and storm simulations, bespoke waves, and scaled up their rendering pipeline in the cloud.
