‘Silicon Valley: Inside the Hacker Hostel’ is a new VR experienced from REWIND based on Mike Judge and Alec Berg’s immensely successful comedy series.
‘Inside the hacker Hostel’ allows fans to roam the incubator in which the show’s protagonists, Richard, Dinesh, Gilfoyle and Jared live and work. The experience includes encounters with each of these characters as well as fan favourites like Big Head and Jian-Yang. Fans visiting the virtual hacker hostel can also play a game of ‘always blue’, demo the Not Hot Dog app, find a secret message from Jared, and help Richard out of a coding crisis.
There’s also no shortage of interactive elements from table football to a playable piano. Users can even get ‘drunk’ or ‘high’, a legal activity in California where the show is set, with the experience becoming fully distorted to simulate the effects of intoxication.
3ds Max and Maya were employed to recreate the Hacker Hostel from top-down blueprints and photo references were used to recreate materials in Substance Designer and Substance Painter. The team at REWIND also took HDR 360 Captures of the show’s set, in order to replicate the lighting as accurately as possible.
The experience became available for download, via Viveport, on Sunday, coinciding with the premiere of the show’s fifth season. ‘Silicon Valley: Inside the Hacker Hostel’ is currently only available in America. However, anyone attending VRLO in London on 25 April 2018 will get the chance to explore the full VR experience.
