The VFX Festival reveals incredible line-up

The VFX Festival has returned for its sixth year. Run by Escape Studios, part of Pearson College London, the three-day event, will run from 6 – 8 February 2018, in association with arts and cultural venue, Rich Mix.

The line-up for The VFX Festival 2018, includes a wealth of all-star industry leading studios. Top visual effects (VFX) companies, who have worked on some the biggest blockbusters over the past year.

The latest addition to the line-up is ILM London. Ben Morris, Creative Director ILM London and Global VFX Supervisor for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, will be presenting on the VFX of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Ben will be joined by Mike Mulholland – VFX Supervisor ILM London and Steve Aplin – Director of Animation for ILM London. The team will talk through various aspects of the VFX and VFX Animation process that went into bringing the amazing images for Star Wars: The Last Jedi to the big screen.

Headliner Framestore will be exclusively presenting on Thor: Ragnarok, offering a ‘behind the scenes’ look for the first time ever. Reuniting with Marvel Studios for the climactic final act of Thor: Ragnarok, Framestore’s lead VFX Supervisor, Alexis Wajsbro, will be delving into the production of 459 shots of heavy-duty VFX. In addition, Framestore will also be presenting childhood classic, Paddington 2, headlining Day 1 of the festival. First responsible for bringing the iconic bear to life in 2014, world renowned Framestore will delve into their latest adventures in the creation of Paddington 2.

The Mill will be presenting on this year’s most talked about Christmas advertising campaign John Lewis’ ‘Moz the Monster’ and how they brought the creature to life. Aaron Hartline, Animator at PIXAR Animation Studios will be joining our line-up and talking about creating creative ideas for your animated short.

MPC’s VFX team lead who worked alongside Director Ridley Scott will be discussing the anatomy of an alien, from their work on Alien: Covenant. Exploring the creation of the movies terrifying creatures, alien environments, vehicles and complex FX simulation work. World-leading visual effects and animation facility Cinesite and awarding winning VFX studios MPC Advertising will also be hosting exclusive talks. Multi-BAFTA award winning animation studio Blue Zoo, will be showcasing the studio’s latest short film “Mamoon”, created using projected CG animation onto miniature polystyrene sets.

A series of panels, workshops and talks, will explore different sides of this diversification, from industry and education, to technology and broader cultural issues.
