Texture tool developers Allegorithmic has recently announced the end of numbered versions for both Substance Painter and Substance Painter.
Instead, both tools will run regular updates on a yearly basis.
Substance Painter 2017.1 and Substance Designer 2017.1 are already available.
Substance Painter 2017.1 has 300 new customisable alphas and patterns and also includes Substance Designer’s HBAO Ambient Occlusion, live Edge Wear to be shown in real-time, glow and drop shadow filters and more.
This release is free to all Substance Painter 2 Indie licence holders and to Substance Painter 2 Pro licence holders purchased after 1 January 2017. Substance Painter 2 Indie license holders will keep getting free updates until 30 Sept 2017.
Substance Designer 2017.1’s updates include revamped bakers to make the baking process faster alongside graph improvements and an improved Autolevel node.
This release is also accessible for free to all Substance Designer 6 Indie licence holders and to Substance Designer 6 Pro licence holders. In both cases, you’ll receive updates up to 30 June 2018.
