At the age of just 31, Joi Ito was a member of TIME magazine’s Cyber-Elite listing, and his achievements have continued to gain him recognition ever since. In 2008, BusinessWeek named him one of the 25 Most Influential People on the Web. In 2011, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Oxford Internet Institute, and in 2014, he was one of the recipients of the Golden Plate award at the Academy of Achievement’s International Achievement Summit.
As the director of MIT Media Lab, Ito is currently exploring how radical new approaches to science and technology can transform society in substantial ways. Though not much is known about exactly what his keynote address will be about, the SIGGRAPH 2015 blog mentions several posts from Ito’s personal website, Joi.Ito.com, including ‘The Creativity Compass‘ and ‘Antidisciplinary‘.
