Michael Defeo and Scott Eaton launch a Kickstarter project to fund an intuitive anatomy reference tool that’s developed by artists, for artists

Michael Defeo launches a new Kickstarter Project

Using Kickstarter as a platform to crowdfund their latest project, Michael Defeo and Scott Eaton are excited about the groundbreaking tool that’s neither book nor sculpture, but a marvellous combination of the two.

The aim is to build an application for the iPad, iPhone, Mac desktop and eventually Android and PC platforms. With the help of Kickstarter backers, the intuitive app will allow artists to:

  • Tumble and zoom the model from 360-degree angles
  • Switch to Scott’s updated version of Jean-Antoine Houdon‘s iconic ‘écorché’, which keeps the original grace while providing anatomical corrections
  • Toggle an informational overlay which will reveal a full muscular map that includes text indicating origin, inserts and actions

In addition, Scott will oversee Michael’s planar and primitive versions that will help the artist better understand the forms, with both artists working to ensure maximum correctness, elegance, intuition and usability.

The project needs to raise $8000 US by 10 May. Backers will receive various thanks and goodies for their support, including:

  • $1 or more pledges will receive thanks will be given in the ‘thank you’ section of the app
  • $25 or more pledges will be acknowledged in the ‘thank you’ section and will receive a copy of the app
  • $50 or more pledges will be acknowledged with thanks, a copy of the app, plus an unframed, signed art print of the ‘écorché’ with informational overlay
  • $100 or more pledges will be acknowledged with thanks, a copy of the app, plus a limited edition T-shirt
  • $250 or more pledges will be acknowledged with thanks, a copy of the app, an unframed, signed art print of the ‘écorché’, plus a limited edition T-shirt

Whichever you choose, you also receive a signed, unframed art print of the Ecorché, a copy of the app, and acknowledgement in the ‘thank you’ section
