Dan Roarty Blue Project

First up is the excellent tutorial from Dan Roarty. In it, Dan shares his steps for achieving the incredibly realistic skin and eyes for The Blue Project.

Following on from that, we’ve got a great step-by-step guide to photorealistic shading and rendering using a Maya and modo workflow. It’s accompanied by over three hours of video training on our disc too.

Keen on creatures? Check out our guide to character design and development using ZBrush. Other tutorials include creating textures in Photoshop and compositing abstract 3D models into photographs.

Features this issue include a celebration of Luxology’s tenth birthday – we look at the modo maker’s history and speak with artists who use its awesome software.

We also have a sit down and a chat with 3D artist Jeremy Kool about The Paper Fox and how he sought crowd funding to get the project off the ground.

The Workshop section, meanwhile, includes guidance on building assets to sell online, automatic LOD creation in Max, controlling crowds using ScatterFX, using ZBrush 4’s new DynaMesh function, fluid simulations in Blender, plus more.

There’s all this and loads more besides. Issue 37 of 3D Artist is on sale now in all good newagents, supermarkets and online at the official Imagine Publishing store. Thanks for reading, guys and gals, and enjoy the issue!
