Toronto-based Blacksmith3D, an independent company, has launched a new version of its 3D painting, morphing and modelling software – Blacksmith3D-Suite v3.2.
Designed to streamline the process of 3D texturing and painting, it allows artists to paint textures directly on 3D models using very fluid and natural brush strokes. The company claims it only takes one click to auto UV Map an object, or users can instead work some magic on images that are already mapped.
The new suite includes the ability to paint across UV seams; paint textures with Alpha Masks; use the Clone Tool to texture directly to/from the 3D models; use the ‘touch-up’ painting tool set to Smudge & Blur, Hue & Saturation plus others and to harness support for graphics tablets to paint directly on the model. Blacksmith3D-Suite v3.2 is compatible with most design packages that import/export OBJ files.

Blacksmith3D is offering a freeware version of the software in addition to a commercial demo (with save/export commands disabled) from its download site at www.blacksmith3d.com/downloads.htm.
Blacksmith3D-Suite is available for $299.95, or you can purchase Blacksmith3D-Paint and Morph as standalone applications. The prices for these are $199.95 and $99.95 respectively. For further information, visit www.blacksmith3d.com
